The inscrutable Americans scattered around the world are generally tolerated, and often appreciated. The sheer size of our economy means that it is to the benefit of others to understand Americans. The people of Thailand are no exception. With a booming economy, and one of the “Asian Tigers”, Thailand is a nation that would benefit a lot from understanding a bit more about this massive trading partner.
So one of the local English language newspapers offers this very helpful service: they print a popular comic strip (in this case, “Calvin and Hobbes”), and then have someone explain the humor in the strip. This is done as a service for those who do not speak English that well.

What a deal, maybe I will learn something myself!
